The Georgia Tech Police Department consists of more than 100 full time employees dedicated to the safety and security of the campus.
Primarily responsible for protecting the life and property of people on the Georgia Tech campus, GTPD officers patrol the campus 24/7 and provide a full range of public safety services including:
• Providing first response to emergencies.
• Enforcing laws and Institute regulations.
• Investigating criminal incidents and traffic accidents.
• Reporting crimes and traffic accidents.
• Conducting crime awareness and prevention programs.
All sworn officers of the law are certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council. GTPD officers are authorized by state law (O.C.G.A. 20-3-72) to make arrests for crimes committed upon any property under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and for offenses committed upon any public or private property within 500 yards of any property under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents. GTPD officers are the first to respond to all campus emergencies.
Civilian staff include communications (dispatch) officers, public safety officers, emergency preparedness staff, and office administrative staff.
The Georgia Tech Police Department is accredited under the Law Enforcement Agency Program by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
